![]() Anthony Opipari Jr., M.D., Ph.D. Associate Chair for Research |
Dr. Opipari is a graduate of the University of Michigan, where he obtained both a medical and a doctoral degree. He completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Michigan and joined the faculty of the University of Michigan in 1998. Dr. Opipari's clinical interests are colposcopy, pre-cancers of the cervix and vulva, abnormal Pap test results and gynecologic problems. His research interests are cervical dysplasia, human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, development of new cytotoxic agents, and mechanisms of cell death (why cells become cancer). |

Dr. Smith is a graduate of Wake Forest University Medical School. She completed residencies at Brigham and Women's Hospital and the U-M. Dr. Smith also completed an Reproductive Endocrinology fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Her clinical interests are Reproductive endocrinology and infertility - assisted reproductive technologies, pediatric and adolescent gynecology, polycystic ovary syndrome, and menopause. Research interests are influence of hormones on the brain, menopause and hormone therapy, bleeding problems in adolescents, and developmental problems of the reproductive tract. |

Ms. Tumbarello received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology with minors in Southeast Asian Studies & Women's Studies from Northern Illinois,1993. She went on to receive a Master of Arts in Anthropology from Northern Illinois University, 1996 and continued for 2 years in Medical Anthropology at the University of California, San Francisco. Ms. Tumbarello currently serves as both the PFRG Project Manager and The Manager of Research Compliance and Operations for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. |

Ms. Schon received her BS in Physiology and BA in Chemistry from Michigan State University in 2001. She then went on to receive her Master in Public Health from the University of Michigan in 2004. Melissa serves as the Pre-Award Grants Specialist for the department. In that capacity she supports the department in all areas of proposal preparation including but not limited to: finding funding opportunities, budget development, completing the Proposal Approval Forms (PAF), and routing and obtaining University approval. |

Ms. Zide started in the department of OB/GYN in 1979 as a patient account clerk for billing and collection from third party carriers for patient services. In 1995 she took on both pre and post-award for the department. In 2006 Mary’s job transitioned to specializing in post-award and currently is the Contract and Grant Specialist for post-award in the department of OB. |
