The U-M Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology provides a unique educational experience that involves close interaction with house staff and faculty, and a hands-on approach to learning by doing. A physician specializing in obstetrics or gynecology often is considered a woman’s primary care provider, and with this in mind, students are encouraged to learn not only obstetrics and gynecology, but women's health, in general. During the six-week clerkship, most students will encounter a multitude of clinical problems in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. Didactic sessions incorporating lectures and case-based learning accompanies the clinical rotation.
The clerkship includes labor and delivery, gynecologic surgery and outpatient clinics, as well as EBM cases, medical simulation, and a standardized patient experience. Students will be assigned to either the University Hospital or one of our partner sites (St Joseph Hospital) for the clinical portion of this 6-week rotation.
